Glee is a musical comedy-drama television series which chronicles the life of high school students at fictional William McKinley High with its glee club New Directions competing on the show choir competition circuit, while the members struggle with relationships, sexuality, and social issues. The series stars Matthew Morrison (Will Schuester) , Jan Lynch (cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester) Jayma Mays (Emma Pillsbury), Jessalyn Gilsig (Terri), and eight club members Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, and Jenna Uskowitz. Glee is set in Lima, Ohio, where the producer Ryan Murphy chose a Midwest where he grew up in. Murphy stated he had never see a High School Musical film to which Glee has been compared frequently and that his interest lay in creating a “postmodern musical” rather than “doing a show where the cast would just burst into song.
